Name/Title

Fred Gardner House, Dennysville, Maine

Description

Fred Gardner House is located on the hill overlooking the site of the Gardner family stores on the banks of the Dennys River, Dennysville, Maine. Gardner's home, originally built by William L. Kilby, was located across the driveway from his mother's.

Context

William L. Kilby, son of William Kilby, Jr., built his house on the hillside overlooking the stores along the Dennys River. His house was later occupied by Charles Eastman, before being sold, in 1889, to Fred L. and Mary (Philbrook) Gardner. (Her mother was Mary (Kilby) , daughter of Benjamin L. Kilby.) The Gardners, who lived the rest of their lives in that house until he died in 1944 and she in 1951, were succeeded by their son and his wife Louis and Hilda (Hallowell) Gardner. In 1985, Louis' son, Bernard Gardner, sold the property to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Mills.
