Lincoln House Front Parlor, Dennysville, Maine

Name/Title

Lincoln House Front Parlor, Dennysville, Maine

Description

An interior view of the south parlor of the Lincoln House in Dennysville, Maine, sometime in the 1920's.

Context

The first full two-story house Dennysville was built for Theodore Lincoln by Josiah and James Chubbuck of Hingham, Massachusetts in 1790, connected to a smaller ell built a few years earlier in 1787. The spacious south parlor was one of two gracing the front portion of the house and furnished comfortably by three generations of the Lincoln family. The early grandfather clock and secretary desk were a gift to Theodore from his father, General Benjamin Lincoln of Hingham. The piano seen on the right was probably acquired for Anna Maxwell Brown, who sang with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company before her marriage to Dr. Arthur Lincoln in 1889.
