Description

This Hallowell family gravestone records the loss of a father and five of his young children between the ages one and ten years old, in 1864 to 1865, with their names and dates listed on the reverse side of the stone.

Context

Location of the Hallowell family's house, occupied in the mid-20th century by Fred. His brother Alton Hallowell erected a stone marker in memory of earlier members of the family on the hill behind the current dwelling, built by the Lincolns.
