Context

During the initiation of the Lilwa society were taught the stories of these mbole figurative sculpture is a figure that represents individuals that have been hanged for violating laws of society in the Yela culture. The young men were made aware of the wrong that these individuals did in order to understand that only righteousness should guide them through their lives. The figures have very simple representations of a person with a rope around their neck and the rope going above their head.
