Context

The "Bedu Mask" of the Gurunsi people of Burkina Faso that derives from different symbolism of what a "Bedu" is in their culture. There is a story in their culture that this mythical "Bedu" animal cured an ill child by touching its skin and walking away. Also the Badu is an affiliation of elders of the Gurunsi people. This masks is used in festivals that are held once a year at the beginning of a new year. The performance with this masks is done to ignite the curing and fertilizing powers among women and children, while ridding the evil of the village.
