Abstract design with dark purple and blue background and sharp edged bright green and yellow forms in the middle.Context
William S. Schwartz was a Russian born artist who moved to Chicago in 1916 to begin studying at the School of the Art Institute. He worked in a number of various mediums including sculpture, drawing, watercolor, oil painting, and lithographs. His body of artwork contains portraits, landscapes, and still lives, using both realistic and abstract forms. This painting shows an entirely abstract composition that still keeps Schwartz's familiar forms, such as the sharp edged shapes with dramatic shadows.Acquisition
