Born in Michigan, Morris Barazani’s life as an artist began in high school. After three years serving in WW2, he moved to Chicago and enrolled in the Institute of Design. Here, he was heavily inspired by artist László Moholy-Nagy and the constructivism style. After being a part of the Chicago art community for multiple decades, he founded the Art Department at DePaul University.
During his career, Barazani worked often with paint and always in abstraction, creating works with both geometric and organic forms. While he may have first been inspired by constructivism, the painting seen here more closely follows abstract expressionism, with its long brush strokes and medium-large scale canvas.Acquisition
