Context

This painting is typical of Smith’s work, as he mainly dealt in sailing scenes, very similar to this one. He studied at the Boston Museum School and then in Toronto at the Central Ontario Design School. He worked as a newspaper artist for over 20 years, until he decided to focus solely on maritime paintings.
