Context

This engraving expresses the taste for life through festivals and celebrations mainly originating from pre-Hispanic communities. In other states or regions of Mexico dances and celebrations are now syncretized with Catholicism, imposed by the Spanish invasion. However, communities continue to evoke culture inherited from their ancestors. In the State of Morelos has the lively dance Chinelos, which shows a satirical action to the Spanish presence. Other dances like Tlacololeros in the State of Guerrero, embody the energy and spiritual connection with nature or that which Mother Earth manifests. We can imagine an infinite number of cultural events through dances that also could fill parks and wide avenues of big cities like Chicago.
