2025.08.01Description
This is a collection of 25 objects made of milk and lime. The original piece was made up of 50 bowls, this is a selection of that. They are held in bronze mounts.
The bowls made of milk are a collection of offerings shaped with the hands. They were molded with milk and lime by transforming the milk into a solid and mixing it with lime -also known as the milk of the earth-.Context
Cuencos en leche were included in the exhibition En el principio / In the beginning: Juliana Góngora Rojas, Matías Quintero Sepúlveda, Juven Piranga Valencia, and Yinela Piranga, her first exhibition in the United States, at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2025. Góngora invited fellow artist Matías Quintero Sepúlveda and Juven and Yinela Piranga Valencia, leaders of the Ko’revaju Indigenous community of the Northern Colombian Amazon, to create an installation that honors the ongoing dialogue and spiritual collaboration that they have collectively sustained over several years. Weaving together earth, its pigments, milk, plant fibers, and seeds, the artists and community leaders give form to their shared vision of interconnectedness, collectivity, and creation.Acquisition
