William S. Schwartz was a Russian born artist who moved to Chicago in 1916 to begin studying at the School of the Art Institute. He worked in a number of various mediums including sculpture, drawing, watercolor, oil painting, and lithographs. His body of artwork contains portraits, landscapes, and still lives, using both realistic and abstract forms. This lithograph is typical of his style, with the jagged edges and dramatic shadows creating a slight abstraction while still keeping the image primarily figurative.Acquisition
