Context

Eichebuckel (oak hummock) (2002), a floor piece made of a crudely stitched patchwork of green wool army blanket remnants, employs an industrially produced material that retains a sense of its natural origins to evoke the terrain of a human-altered yet still bucolic landscape. The scale of each piece in the series was determined in relation to the size of a particular species of tree (in the case an oak), while each section is based on the average size of that species’ leaf. The orientation of each section and the direction of the stitching were determined by chance.
