In Phyllis Bramson's elaborate, large scale narrative paintings and drawings, Asian inspired figures and fanciful fairies. Layered fields of abstracted backgrounds lurk behind spontaneous pockets of decorative excess that project desire and intoxication (with comic bumps along the way). The central source of her imagery usually comes from experiences and memories that have to do with some sort of ‘traveling’. The narratives are used as a repository for feelings, which often collide and intermingle between notions of the personal, the decorative and at the same time, proposes a story but doesn’t tell an ending.Acquisition
