Context

Public Domain tested the parameters of public and private property by inviting passersby on a commercial downtown Chicago street to contribute creative material--drawings, text, photographs, songs, and object--for a site-specific public wall installation. The in-kind contributions were digitized, altered and combined by computer to create a wall installation. Contributors attended the final exhibition which included the creative donations along with an installation of Public Domain (scenic) and Public Domain (grid), each composed of 20 prints. The project was sponsored by Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs.
