Context

Many of Wayne’s works addressed repeating motifs and patterns, extrapolated into new forms and meanings. One series evolved into over a dozen images that examined macro and micro iterations of the same fingerprint pattern, including Sea Change. Wayne used the same image to depict forces shaping the individual and forces shaping the universe (genes, waves, winds, planetary gravities.) She was interest in both formal and conceptual relationships between the different prints, and the ingenuity of nature’s processes of repetition and reproduction. Sea Change captures what the artist coined “framed wind” and reimagines the fingerprint as gusts of air.
