Context
“The bondage series came about when I noticed, that I had some kind of hang-up painting over contour lines. I decided to start the paintings with a bunch of incised lines so I would have no choice but to paint over them. The surface is built with thick layers of gesso with strings. I remove the strings before I add oil paint.
The imagery comes about very slowly and intuitively. I usually start by adding a ground color (or many), then I start adding shapes and responding to them. The shapes are not completely abstract, they usually refer to objects or architecture. But loosely. I add many layers of paint and shapes. Sometimes I cover everything up then sand down to revel them again. Construction/destruction." - Guerin
