In 1953, a year after graduating from the Institute of Design, Ishimoto began to make abstract color photographs based on multiple exposure images of architecture and landscape. He would continue this series well into the 1990s. These photographs can be seen as descendants of Ishimoto’s earliest experiments with abstract imagery from the late 1940s, and demonstrate his lifelong commitment to mining the expressive potential of visual elements, including composition, pattern, and light.
