Repeated stamp of classified ads across the canvas with a rosy paint on top.Context
Chryssa stamped bits of text and graphics taken from cast-off newspaper printing plates onto the canvas in repetitive grid patterns, generating a blurred effect as if of shimmering single colors. By appropriating the basic units of written communication and recognizable formats from mass media, Chryssa constructed images that are familiar enough to provoke attempts at decoding yet are ultimately unreadable. Since the works frustrate the mental process of assigning meaning to words, viewers must appreciate written language as a visual experience rather than as a verbal signifier—if they are to appreciate the paintings at all. - "Monochrome Multitudes, p.200"Acquisition
