Tantra in Tibet : the great exposition of secret mantra / Tsong-ka-paEntry/Object ID

This, the third volume in the series, presents an authoritative translation of the first part of "The Great Exposition of Secret Mantra", with an extensive introduction on the essence of Tantra by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Tantra is a branch of yogic mysticism which deals with the channelling of energy (physical, spiritual and sexual) with a view to the attainment of Buddhahood. The lamas of Tibet have been the chief guardians of Tantric knowledge, much of which was regarded as dangerous if it strayed into the wrong hands and therefore kept secret. Because of this secrecy and the subtlety and complexity of Tantric teachings, there has been a great deal of argument about their precise meaning and regarding exactly how much of Tantric imagery is symbolic and how much to be taken literally. "The Great Exposition of Secret Mantra" is one of the principal classic texts on Tantra handed down by Tsong-ka-pa, the great fourteenth century scholar and yogi who founded the Ge-luk-pa order. It is an extremely beautiful treatise and the Dalai Lama's lucid commentary undoubtedly renders the publication of this eagerly awaited work an event of major importance in the Buddhist world.Collection
