Notes

Hedrick’s $18.00 Giant Power Heidelberg Electric Belt (1973) is an example of the artist’s appropriated paintings, not unlike Marcel Duchamp’s readymades. Hedrick photographed the image from a catalog advertisement and projected it onto canvas to reproduce it. Of the work, Hedrick has noted that it illustrates “this absolute belief in technology,” perhaps a wry foreshadowing of today’s obsession with wearable tech.
