Research Notes

Notes

The "Horse" is a single wooden boat built in 1974. Emilio "Horse" Massucco joined the Dolphin Club in 1948. He was born in North Beach and lived most of his life there, working as a longshoreman for many years. He paid for all materials used in his namesake boat, which was crafted by Herman Zahler and christened on October 26, 1974. Emilio Massucco died in January 1988 at the age of 74. (Source: Log Summer 1999 p. 6 PDF attached.) The boat was used by members for fishing under the piers, so was very heavy and hard to maneuver. Horse Massucco got the nick name Horse due to his size and strength. (source:N. Strelchuk)

General Notes

Note

Wooden boat "Horse" was rebuilt about 1994 by Nick Strelchuk. About 1996 with guidance from Bob Hoff, Nick made and added the name board. Later the boat was given to the Sea Scouts (DATE??). In March 2022 this name board was retrieved from the boat by Nick for the archives. The boat is still owned by the Sea Scouts and kept at their facility west side of Aquatic Parkas of April 2022. It may be sold in the future. Nick plans to retrieve the horse carving on the prow. (Source: N. Strelchuk)
