Description

Wooden sign from Dolphin Club boathouse built at foot of Van Ness, later moved to foot of Larkin, and then to current location at foot of Hyde. Carved wood sign, corners with scrolls designs, painted white, blue letters, center emblem features crossed blue oars, ornate gold colored ribbon in bow, surmounted by a blue fish in vertical position head near emblem. Carved letters: "Dolphin S & B Club" ; Shown on building in photo 190011 see below. Newspaper article mentions sign: "A handsome carved sign, emblematic of the Dolphin Club, has been presented to the club by J. and W. Laib who have just become members." San Francisco Call, January 18, 1896. R.Cooper found citation.
