Description

Tall narrow oval wooden plaque with black painted '1' at top, and black script title: "Dolphin Club - Ladies Cup - Top Swimmers" Below are 12 horizontal stacked black plates with year and 3 names of (the 3 top points) on each, 2005-2016, at time of artifact image. Another plaque is added each year. The first reason for the shape of the trophy was to represent the numbered flat sticks (popsicle sticks/tongue depressors) given to finishers on the beach to indicate place of finish. (Then swimmers then turn over the sticks to timers to connect time to place). The second reason for the shape was to fit on the wooden window panel between two large north facing windows in the Staib Room. The swim commissioners at the time thought the walls were already full of traditional wooden rectangular trophy plaques.

Use

Ladies Cup points are awarded to top ten finishers in any regularly scheduled swim. 10th place finisher gets 1 point, 1st place finisher gets 10 points. At initiation, one piloting help was required for a swimmer to begin to accrue Ladies Cup points for top 10 swimmers in any club swim. !st place gets 10 points, 2nd place gets 9 points, etc to 10th place gets 1 point. According to an article in the Fall 2005 Log, the program was started in 2005. It appears the trophy was initiated in 2005.
