Description

Rectangular wooden base, front side slants out; topped with shaped wood panel painted green to look like the sea; small wooden whitehall boat model with oars sits on top of wood panel. Brass plates on front and sides with names of winners of the Modesto Lanzone Annual Pilot of the Year Award. Trophy used 1975 to present. The trophy was reported missing/stolen late 1999/early 2000. When It was returned original artwork on top, a bronze (?) sculpture of boat and rower by Gordon Cook, was missing. See Artifact 261 John Selmer model boat. Some time after the Pilot of the Year presentation to Ray Artigues in November 1999, the trophy disappeared. Board Minutes Feb 16, 2000 reported trophy missing presumably stolen. Log Winter 2000 p. 17 article mentions theft and asks for information on whereabouts. Trophy was eventually recovered but was missing the metal sculpture of waves and boat on top. John Selmer made the wooden replacement top and model boat on trophy in 2003.
