Notes

Techau Tavern had many locations from 1870 when it was opened by a German immigrant R.J. Techau. By 1899 Techau had relocated the tavern to the Union Street area. It was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire, but rebuilt. More information on Techau Tavern, a 1910 photo, and publicity posters are on FoundSF.org website: https://www.foundsf.org/index.php?title=Techau_Tavern One poster calls the venue, "A High Class Family Cafe" This 2012 document, an unsuccessful application for historic landmark status for a later bar at the Techau Tavern location ( 247 Powell/333 Geary), gives a detailed history of the Techau Tavern on p. 6-9. https://commissions.sfplanning.org/hpcpackets/2012.0118Lc1.pdf The address of the tavern at the time of the 1916 Dolphin banquet may be 333 Geary. See Fig 8, p. 8 of above 2012 document.
