Chapel of St. Ghislane at st. Michael's Cemetery at County Highway J and Misiere Road in the Town of Brussels. It honors St. Ghislane, the patron saint of children. This little chapel is representative of the early chapels built in Door and Kewaunee Counties and was moved onto this "God's Acre" from the Jules Vandertie farm.
The chapels have a strong European heritage which came with the early Belgian immigrants to the Brussels area from the 1850's to 1900. As the immigrants began their lives as pioneer Americans they felt the need for a local sanctuary or small house of prayer. Farms were far apart and it was sometimes hard to get to a larger church for worship. Most of the chapels are located within a few miles of Brussels, on private and public property with five or six remaining in the year 2000.Collection
