Door County Advocate - First Edition - Vol. 1 - No. 1 - Saturday, March 22, 1862. According to the Diamond Anniversary Issue of the Door County Advocate, Fri. Mar. 26, 1937, this was the only loose copy of the first issue. It was found about 1924 when S. J. Harris was cleaning out a pile of old, rolled-up papers in a forgotten corner of a room at the Advocate so that he could use this room as an office for his new position as reporter. So that this copy would not be mislaid and forgotten again, the sheets were framed separately in hinged, glass panels so they could be turned on a wall bracket and read on both sides. This was displayed in the Advocate's front office until the Door County Historical Museum was built, at which time it was turned over to the museum.
