Description

Frank J. Shimmel Store at the NE corner of 3rd. and Kentucky. The date of the photo is unknown but is sometime between 1894 and 1929. Frank Shimmel bought the property in 1894, moved the existing Hebert residence to the E 1/3 of the lot and replaced it with a frame, two story building, the lower floor used for mercantile purposes and the second floor for offices and rooms. Shimmel lived in the residence at the rear of the lot. DesEnfants bought the property in 1929 and converted the building into a hotel which became the Roxana.
