Description

History of Door County, Wisconsin, Together With Biographies of Nearly Seven Hundred Families, and Mention of 4,000 Persons - by Chas. I. Martin - 1881. This is the first known written history of Door County and it's towns. Included are short biographies of each town's earliest settlers. Also, glued to the inside covers, is an early newspaper article about Robert Noble's experience of crossing Death's Door in the winter of 1864. The hand written notes found in the book were added by the original Dreutzer owners. While researchers are very thankful that Martin published this history, CAUTION is urged in using the biographical information as many errors have been found in dates and names. Physical Characteristics: 1 tan, hard covered book, green binding, 4 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 3/8" thick, approx. 140 pages.

General Notes

Note

Notes: Due to the rarity of this book and it's condition, it will be kept in the office of the Door County Historical Society/Door County Archives and photocopies will be used by researchers. Condition note: Sept. 11, 2000 - The book, in spite of it's age, is in fairly good condition, except that it's binding is completely gone. Therefore it has been placed in archivally safe materials normally used for storing glass negatives. The usual storage containers for rare books are too large for this book. Status: OK
