2001.02.0044Scope and Content
News article from the Friday, August 18, 2000 issue of the Door County Advocate telling of the research done on one of the shipwrecks at the Leathem Smith Quarry at the Green Bay entrance to Sturgeon Bay. Although this ship wreck was identified for many years as that of the Mueller, research by Jon Van Harpen correctly identifies the shipwreck as the remains of the Steamer Vermillion which was towed to the quarry in Aug. 1923 for use as a breakwater.
