Cross reference: PP #2005.24.1 is same photo donated by Russ Cihlar.
Photocopy of a one-story building in what appears to be Sturgeon Bay in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Eight men are seen lounging on the boardwalk in front of the building and a cart, horse and driver are on the street at the edge of the boardwalk. The street is a sea of mud. A sign in front of the middle of the building reads "STOVES and Tin Ware". Faintly handwritten on the top edge of the middle of the building is "Masse Tin Shop" and to the right "W Bay Bank"
Second photo is from the Sturgeon Bay Book (Images of America) page 32 with the following information:
The intersection of Third Avenue and Michigan Street was once a muddy mess after a rain. The first bank in Door county, started in 1880 by F.J.Shimmel and Joseph Kozieshek, was on the corner. A number of banks used the facility until the new Merchants Exchange Bank was built on the site in 1908. The site now hosts the office of James Parson, CPA.
