Description

H.J. Hahn Funeral Hearse The caption on the museum's print reads as follows: The old, horse drawn funeral hearse pictured above, was purchased in 1896 by Henry Hahn when he bought out the undertaking business of F.X. Sailer on the east side of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Note the five fancy statues on the roof, which were still in style at the time. This is believed to have been only the third horse drawn hearse ever used in Door County, and is shown here during an actual funeral procession. F.X. Sailer bought the first horse drawn hearse in 1880. Eventually eight horse drawn hearses would be in use by various funeral homes around the county.
