PARADE HONORS V-E DAY AND MOTHERS
This picture serves a dual purpose. In the first place it shows coastguardmen and navy men on parade Sunday in celebration of V-E day and Mother's day. In the second place, it affords our more than 800 Door County service men and women readers an opportunity for a glimpse at "main street". Doesn't it look familiar?
The parade was staged by coastguardmen and the Smith band prior to the launching of a tanker and freighter at the Smith shipyard. Cap. Earl B. Hull of Cleveland and numerous other coast guard officers were here for the event, the former's wife having been chosen by the navy for the honor of being the tanker's sponsor.
A Spar ensign, Marjorie Laehr of Milwaukee, was co-sponsor. She and 10 other Spars who accompanied her here also marched in the parade. A glimpse of them may be seen at the extreme left.Collection
