Earl Pagel has recently retired (1997) from dairy farming due to poor health. He feels that delivering "chopped hay" to the cows down the narrow front walk area since 1963 has caused his body to disfigure. He would twist back to the right to accommodate the oversized full fork. Earl's farm is at 559 Kolberg Road. He inherited the farm in 1966 after his mother passed away in 1965. His father passed away a year and half earlier. Earl has never married. The farm house he lives in was built in 1917. His grandfather had owned the land originally.Collection

"In Walking Distance" is a project financially supported by the Peninsula Arts Association (Ephraim, WI) and the Wisconsin Arts Board (Madison, WI) with funds from the state of Wisconsin. The grant was awarded in the fall of 2000 to Suzanne Rose. The project was completed in April of 2002.
The Fairfield Public Gallery (Sturgeon Bay, WI) featured a one-woman show of "In Walking Distance" may 1 - August 4, 2002. This image has also been included in an exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.) in the summer of 2002.
The donated photo, framed and matted, 11" x 14" will probably be displayed at the Crossroads at Big Creek. A scanned copy will remain in the archives photo collection.
