Reynolds Pier (Grovogel Dock) - 1929Entry/Object ID
2002.02.0003Description
Reynolds Pier - 1929. The pier was built in 1869 in front of what is now the Lakeside Town Park in Jacksonport. The approach was 25' wide and 50' wide at the end and extended at least 400' into the lake. The extra width at the end of the pier allowed the teams that were hauling wood to turn around at the end of the pier after unloading the wood into boats. The lumber trade logged out Jacksonport by the 1920's. The piers were abandoned but were used for commercial fishing from time to time until a great ice shove in 1938 damaged them beyond repair. At some point, this pier was also referred to as the Grovogel Dock, perhaps when used by commercial fishermen.Collection
