Description

The original owners of this farm, William and Augusta (Polzin) Tischler Sr. emigrated from Germany in 1883 to Door County. The Tischler family worked hard to clear the land for farming. The present farm house (the third home on the property), built in 1898, and the granary, built in 1908, are modified remnants of the Tischler pioneer homestead. The barn is an example of two styles of vernacular architecture. The older section, currently the concert area, built in 1897, is a New England style barn expanded to accommodate more concert seating. The newer half of the structure, built in 1908, is an example of a gambrel roof barn. This style was commonly built in Wisconsin from the early 1900's into the 1950's. Nearly a century old farm by 1976, the Tischler farmstead was purchased by James and Francis Dutton who turned it into a summer music academy. Birch Creek Music Preformance Center, Inc. continues to operated on the site. Located at 3821 County Highway E, Egg Harbor (between Egg Harbor and Baileys Harbor).
