Untitled (Polyptych Plates: Man, Man, Man and a Man and Woman)
Entry/Object ID
2022.22
Description
Possibly reconstituted together are two 1/6th plate ambrotypes and two 1/6th plate daguerreotypes. The top left image is a daguerreotype of a young, chin bearded man and the mat is thick, rough and pebbled indicating an earlier time period from the other images. The upper right image is an ambrotype in a very late mat of a very tall thin balding man and his wife of the 60'speriod. The lower two images appear to be of a different gentleman. The left image is a very elegant daguerreotype portrait of him wearing a chin collar and black tie with short hair curled at the ears. He appears to be a prominent citizen. The final image to the right appears to be a 3/4 view ambrotype of the same gentleman placed in a later, extremely ornate mat. Three single portraits may possibly depict the same man at different ages?
