Unfinished Tarahumara Basket

Description

Typical double weave basket made with natural and black dyed long leaf pine needles. It is unfinished, which highlights the method of weaving. The primary exterior design consists of a band of light diamonds with a vertical dark lines through the centers on black backgrounds, with the colors in alternating plaiting directions. Above and below the diamond row are four narrow bands, alternating from light to dark. The lowermost dark band is unfinished. The interior is decorated with nine bands of alternating light and dark.
