Innu Drum and Beater

Description

Large round dance drum and beater. The drum is made of hide stretched over a wood hoop, and attached with rawhide strips. Forming a handle in the shape of a "t" in the back of the drum are bound rawhide strips. The beater is a piece of wood with most of the bark stripped off, and a bundle of tanned deer hide at the top bound with rawhide.

Use

The drum is the principal musical instrument of the Innu.
