Lidded Qualla Cherokee Sewing BasketDescription
Beautiful lidded sewing basket made by Sally Locust of Cherokee, NC in 1981. It is made with alternating oak warps and wild honeysuckle wefts dyed a rich reddish-brown with walnut. The rim is coiled natural honeysuckle bound with a strip of hickory. There is a half loop ring attached to the top made of oak splints coiled together with a thin splint. The basket has its original tag from the Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc., of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.Made/Created
