Lidded Qualla Cherokee Sewing Basket

Description

Beautiful lidded sewing basket made by Sally Locust of Cherokee, NC in 1981. It is made with alternating oak warps and wild honeysuckle wefts dyed a rich reddish-brown with walnut. The rim is coiled natural honeysuckle bound with a strip of hickory. There is a half loop ring attached to the top made of oak splints coiled together with a thin splint. The basket has its original tag from the Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc., of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
