Girl's Mask

Name/Title

Girl's Mask

Description

Young female's wooden mask with black fiber hair. The hair is tied to a burlap hood. The mask would be held on to the head with the hood, which is supported with bent twigs, to which it is tied and which attach to and are tied to the mask. The face bears hatched diamond shapes on either cheek and in the center of the forehead; on either side of the forehead image are circles with vertical lines through them. On either side of the nose and below the mouth are groups of three dots. The mouth is partially open, with upper and lower teeth of small wooden pegs protruding. This is possibly a Chokwe mask from Angola.
