Lidded Ash Splint and Braided Sweetgrass BasketDescription
Highly decorative small, round, lidded basket. The top incorporates braided sweetgrass and thin ash splints. The body is constructed with thin bands of ash and braided sweetgrass and loops of wide ash splints with two braids of sweetgrass winding through them. Near the bottom is a band of wider ash splint curled to form essentially opposing triangles. The rim of the lid and of the basket has a band of sweetgrass incorporated into it. The basket is quite faded on the outside, but the inside sitll shows deep red and green dyed splints.Ethnography
