Emberá Wounaan Tray

Description

A shallow, rectangular, carved wooden tray, the rim of which has been finished with several coils of basketry. The carved rim of the wooden tray is drilled through with a row of holes about 1/2 inch from the edge, which were used to stitch the first coil to the tray with a thick black thread. The design in the coiled portion consists of V patterns extending upward from the tray rim in light tan on a natural background. The centers of the Vs are dark brown.
