Description

Outstanding sculpture of a hunter sitting on a dog sled pulled by three dogs, with three seals and a box on the sled. The figures are carved of a greenish argillite and the sled is made of baleen. The slats on the sled are all made of baleen with the exception of the last one on the back, which is wood. The straps are made of thin strips of leather which are either tied directly to the figures or are attached with black thread.

The sled is 8 3/4" long and approx. 2 1/8" wide at the slats. The height to the top of the figure seated on the sled is approx. 3". The dogs are 3 1/4", 3 1/2" and 3 7/8" in length and are approx. 1 3/8" high.
