Navajo Third Phase Chief's Blanket RugDescription
This is a large and heavy rug woven in the style of a third phase chief's blanket. There are roughly three design bands, each of which seems to continue off the sides. The central band consists of a stepped cross outlined in white then in black. On either side of this band is a band that is essentially a large black "W" from the top and a "M" from the bottom, with a white stripe horizontally through the center. Following these are a single black line forming steps up and down, parallel to the crosses in the center row. Between the design elements are small black serrated triangles. The background is deep red. Use
Due to its weight and thickness, this was likely woven to be a rug.Navajo Rug Textile Details
