LUCIDUS MARIA BY DIVINE MERCY
BISHOP OF PORTO AND OF ST. RUFINA CARDINAL OF THE HOLY ROMAN CHURCH
PARISH VICAR GENERAL OF THE MOST HOLY LORD POPE
SECRETARY OF THE INQUISITION OF THE HOLY ROMAN AND UNIVERSAL CHURCH
ORDINARY JUDGE OF THE DISTRICT, ETC.
To all and each who will inspect these present letters, we attest and bear witness that, for the greater glory of Almighty God and the veneration of His Saints, we have recognized the sacred particles from the Ashes of John Berchmans, S.J., which were reverently taken from authentic places and placed in a round silver reliquary, secured with crystal, properly sealed, tied with a red silk cord, and marked with our seal. These relics have been granted with permission to retain, to send outside the City, and to expose publicly for the veneration of the faithful.
Moreover, we admonish the faithful, into whose hands these sacred relics may come now or in the future, that it is by no means permitted to sell them, nor to exchange them for goods that bear the appearance of commerce.
In witness of this, we have issued these testimonial letters, signed by our hand and fortified with our seal, and we have ordered them to be expedited by the undersigned Custodian of Sacred Relics.
Given at Rome, at our offices, on the 11th day of July, in the year 1899.
