Venetian glass was manufactured primarily on the island of Murano. It is world-renowned for being colorfully, elaborately and skillfully made. Many of the important characteristics of these objects had been developed by the 13th century. The glass is made from silica, which becomes liquid at high temperatures. The pink color of the glass may result from the use of selenium.
