This Himalayan censor burned incense for religious ceremonies and was influenced by Chinese philosophy, as evident by the yin-yang symbol on the underside, representing the trade of materials and ideas throughout Asia.

The decorative arts of Exoticism were highly eclectic, including porcelains with motifs such as sphinxes and obelisks, brass objects with densely patterned decoration and tiles decorated in turquoise, blue and green.
