The colors and design on this bowl are distinct and unique to ceramics created in Nishapur during the 10th century. Beautiful pieces, like this one, are thought to have been extremely popular because of the use of gold and silver being forbidden by the Islamic Traditions of the prophet. It is thought the design and shape of the bowls created in Nishapur at this time could have been heavily influenced by ceramics made in China during the Tang Dynasty. Nishapur was located along the Silk Road and became a heavily trafficked and populated area, paving the way for cross cultural artistic influence.Label Type
