These wine glasses were made in the mid to late 19th century in Venice, Italy. They are decorated with the Drexel family crest.

The properties of soda glass, it’s transparency, polychromy, ductility, and ability to be blown thinner and thinner, allowed the Venetian glass makers to create the multiple types of glassware like cristallo, latticino, and winged glasses, that made Venice a leader in glass manufacturing.

Venice did not have any of the raw materials to create glass, but due to their strength as a trading city, was able to import all the necessary materials. The soda from Egypt gave the Venetian glass manufacturers the ability to create incredibly thin glass called cristallo.
